Top Honors: Booster named Hoosier Star, Totem honorable mention

Newspaper and yearbook students from Scottsburg High School received many awards at the Indiana High School Press Association Conference on Friday, 23. In addition, The Booster was named a Hoosier Star and The Totem was an honorable mention for the Hoosier Star. The Hoosier Star is the top award given to high school journalism publications in the state.

Students from both staffs were named Harvey Award winners based on individual entries in various categories.

For newspaper Tori Rone received first place for Best Newswriting and Best Photojournalism Portfolio. Kaleb Mount received second place for Feature Writing, Feature Photo and News Photo and third place for Sports Writing. Courtney Jones received third place for Column Writing. Madeline Parker received third place for cartooning. The Booster staff received third place for Best Editorial and Maestro. Their online newspaper theboosteronline.com was named a second place Harvey award winner.

The Totem staff received first place Harvey’s for Theme Development and Organizational Spreads. They were awarded second place in Academic Spreads, Album Spreads, Sports Spreads. A third place was received for Student Life Spreads. Brittany Stidham received second place for Sports Photo while Dustin Kiefer was awarded third place for Spot News and Photojournalism Portfolio. Alexa Howser and Jayla Helton received third place for Advertising.
