The popular novel penned by Jay Asher gives readers more than 13 reasons to be excited for a screen adaptation. For months, it has been in development at Universal, but Netflix has just confirmed that viewers will be getting a 13 episode miniseries adaptation of the book Thirteen Reasons Why.
Asher’s novel follows the aftermath of high school student, Hannah Baker’s, suicide. A few weeks after her death, a box is left on classmate Clay Jensen’s porch. The box contains 13 tapes for the 13 people who gave her 13 reasons to commit suicide.
All of the details have yet to be ironed out; an actress to portray Hannah Baker and an actor to play Clay Jensen still haven’t been named. However, the executive producer has been named as none other than pop-star and actress Selena Gomez.
According to Variety, Gomez, accompanied by her mother and a fellow producer, have been trying to get a screen adaptation made since reading the book. The three ladies will be responsible for executively producing the mini-series.
“I found the book really intriguing and touching and I’m excited to see how they do the different scenes and flashbacks,” said Sara Slack (11).
A release date has yet to be announced.
