Scottsburg remembers 9/11

Written by Dustin Calhoun

It has fallen into the realm of a “tradition” for Scottsburg to hold a brief school-wide ceremony and prayer circle in lieu of the tragic date that our country will never forget, September 11, 2001. This year’s ceremony was prefaced by General Al Riggle’s testimony over the tragic events that occurred, and how we should always remember the courage exhibited by the brave men and women who were first responders and victims of the atrocity. Following Riggle’s speech, was the choir’s performance of the national anthem. The majority of students left the ceremony when the opportunity to present itself, but a large quantity of students remained in the gym to participate in an optional prayer circle. Many students do not have a full grasp of the events that transpired on that day, but that day will never be forgotten.
