Fall sports teams prepare for sectionals

Scottsburg High School Athletics sectional season is here for some and is just around the corner for others. The boys and girls soccer team both have went to sectionals, as well as the boys tennis team.  In the upcoming weeks the football and volleyball team will be playing too.

On Sept. 27, 28, and 29 the boys tennis team went to Seymour for their sectional. They didn’t win their game, however Mark Hays (11) and Ethan Mullins (10) won their doubles match and moved on. Kaden Cox (12) and Cole Atha (9) also won their doubles match.

On Oct. 2 at Charlestown the boys soccer team was defeated by the Charlestown Pirates with a final score of 5-3.

“We were 3-0 during the first half, but I think we got too cocky and lost during the second half.” said Bryce Culley (10).

On Oct. 3, at Madison High School, the girls soccer team also fought hard, but lost its sectional to Madison with a final score of 7-0.

“I think everyone on the team played their heart out, especially the seniors. There is definitely room for improvement but everyone did amazing,” said Kynleigh Watson (10).

The volleyball team will be going to Silver Creek on Oct. 12 to play North Harrison.

“We have a couple of big matches coming up, but when we don’t have any we plan on practicing hard to prepare for sectionals,” said Hannah Brown (10).

The football team will be going to South Dearborn for its sectional on Oct. 20. It is planning on preparing for their game by focusing on its weaknesses and trying to strengthen them.

“We’re mentally preparing for the game rather than physically. I’m happy with who we drew for the first round of sectionals,” said Christian Smiley (12).
