On Saturday, Nov. 4, the cheer team made its way to state finals. This was something that was highly anticipated for the team since it hadn’t made it to state finals since 2014.
“We haven’t advanced (to state) since 2014, so this team hasn’t experienced that! We were ecstatic,” said Head Coach Klarinda Tutterow.
At the competition, the team “didn’t perform a perfect routine”, according to Tutterow, so they were unsure of how they would place among the total of eight teams in their division.
Tutterow said, “After the regionals, where we placed fifth, we knew we could increase our score. We added some difficulty to our routine and were shooting for top 3 at state, but we knew other people would be increasing their difficulty in their routines as well.”
At the awards ceremony, the team was beyond happy to place fifth in their division.
“I am so proud of my team,” said Tutterow.
The team will be performing their routine from state at Meyer Madness and their next competition is UCA regionals on Nov. 19. At UCA regionals is where bids for nationals at Disney World are handed out.
“We aren’t sure if we can make it to Nationals this year, but it is going to be fun to try,” said Tutterow.
