This fall, the Booster staff and the Totem staff took a field trip to Indiana University Southeast (IUS) for IUS Journalism Day. Students got to take part in an opening conference before being given a choice of multiple areas to partake in journalism related activities or being given a tour of the IUS campus. Afterwards, all the newspaper and yearbook staff members from multiple schools in Southern Indiana and Louisville gathered for the awards ceremony.
The Booster and the Totem won second place overall in the Division 2 schools. The Totem won first place categories for advertising, overall theme, cover, design and clubs section. They also won second place for academics section, student life section, overall photography and people section. And lastly, they won third place in their sports section.
The Booster won best overall website for The Booster Online and best social media. They also won second place for the best news story by Emilee Davidson, overall design and best front page design.
“I was excited because I wasn’t expecting us to come in first place,” Hunter Barrett (11) said referring to The Booster Online. Barrett said he was expecting third place.
