Dogs will eat mostly anything that they can get a hold of. It’s hard for most people to ignore the puppy eyes they give when they are begging, but they might not know how much of the human food can be harmful, even deadly to them.
According to American Kennel Club, these following foods should not be given to dogs: xylitol-containing products, chocolate, onions, grapes and raisins, fatty and fried foods, macadamia nuts and avocados. Sugar-free candy contains Xylitol, which is an artificial sweetener that is very harmful for dogs. It is commonly known not to give dogs chocolate because it has methylxanthines, which slows a dog’s metabolism.
Onions have an ingredient that is toxic to dogs called thiosulphate. Studies show that grapes and raisins can be harmful to dogs. They can even cause sudden kidney failure. Like humans, fatty and fried food isn’t ideal, but they are even more unhealthy for dogs. One of the most poisonous food is macadamia nuts, as they can cause high body temperatures, incapability to walk and vomiting. Avocados may be healthy for humans, but the skin and pit of them contain a toxin called persin that causes diarrhea and vomiting for dogs.
There are several more human foods deadly to dogs, but these are just seven of them. If there is questioning on if a food can harm your pup, the best thing to do is to not give it to them.
