Senior bowlers advance to regional

On Saturday, Jan. 11, the Scottsburg bowling team competed in sectional at Scottsburg Bowling Lanes. Seniors Kristin Hosea, Grace Cannon and Paige Hall advanced to regionals in Noblesville for the girls team.

“Sectionals was a very successful day. Our team fell a little short, but in individuals we have three advancing to regionals,” Hosea said.

Competing with 102-degree fever and infected wisdom teeth, Hosea placed first as an individual in sectional. Despite exhaustion and illness, Hosea bowled a 174, 233 and 175.

“It means a lot to me to win sectional my senior year. Ever since I was a freshman, I would look up to the older bowlers who were really good. The past couple of years I fell short of winning, but this year, it means a lot to come out on top,” Hosea said.

According to Hosea, her greatest motivation has been her dad.

“My dad has coached me ever since I could remember; after I won my dad looked me in the eyes and told me he couldn’t be more proud of me. This is truly a moment I will never forget,” Hosea said.

Cannon placed second in the individual competition.

“Sectionals was a really fun and emotional experience. It was fun seeing my family and teammates cheering the team on. It was emotional whenever our team didn’t advance as a whole to regionals and we realized this was the seniors’ last run together,” Cannon said.

Hall placed fourth in individuals and will join Cannon and Hosea in advancing to regional.

“I am very grateful and very excited about advancing my senior year,” Hall said.

The girls team, as a whole, placed second in the sectional, falling short to South Ripley.

“The team fought hard but it wasn’t enough to advance, the other team was very competitive, and after a long day of fighting hard to win, they deserved it,” Hosea said.

Despite the sectional loss, seniors they are proud of the team’s effort.

“I feel that our season was really good overall; our girls team got really close, improved every game and had a lot of wins. I am very proud of our team and our successes,” Cannon said.

Hosea, Cannon and Hall will advance to regionals on Jan. 18.

“My goal for regionals is to bowl competitively and try my hardest to advance to semi-state,” Hosea said.

The boys team did not advance out of sectionals. The advancing bowlers will continue to practice this week to prepare for the competition on Saturday.
