The cross-country team is running down the final stretch of the season with the Mid-Southern Conference meet coming up.
“This season I was expecting that we would have to convince a lot of new people to run, but thankfully, we had some talented new runners join the team,” senior Issac Johanningsmeier said.
Many of the runners have had big improvements and met big goals this season. Junior Kenley Comer met her goal of running under 30:00, which she achieved by running a 28:26. Isaac Johanningsmeier is currently working toward a goal of his.
“My personal goal for this year is to run a sub 20:00 5K. I am only two seconds off of this goal,” Johanningsmeier said.
Along with goals being met, great memories have been made too.
“My favorite memory so far has been senior night,” senior Kristen Skelton said. “I’ve been running for Coach Ashley for seven years, so it’s very bittersweet for me to be spending my last year with him as my coach.”
The team competed in 10 meets so far this season with two more to go. With the amount of training and competing this team has done, there is no doubt they have had to overcome some obstacles including a few injuries this season. Freshman Jadon Muncy said the biggest struggle for him was the adjustment to the bigger high school courses coming from the middle school.
“We’ve had many teammates suffer injuries or illnesses (not Corona) and have to miss a few meets. We still have a couple people in recovery, but we are getting back on track,” Skelton said.
