Having the thought in the back of one’s head of possibly not being able to complete a season can mess up a student-athlete’s mindset.
“It kind of worried us because we didn’t know if we would be able to play in sectionals this year,” senior Ryan Gibson said
Luckily, it did not have a massive effect on the boys tennis team. For the first time in several years, the boys tennis team beat Brownstown, Gibson said. Brownstown has one of the best teams in the Mid-Southern Conference. In past years, the boys team has struggled to pull out a win against the strong team. This year, they came through with a win.
With sectionals being around the corner, they are set on winning. If the boys win sectionals, they get to have a banner with the names of the players on the team across the school’s tennis courts. The last time a banner was created for the boys tennis team was five years ago.
“Our record this year is 7-5,” Gibson said.
Overall, their season has been a successful one with many achievements already made. Friendship and teamwork all being big factors of their hard work that they’ve put in this year.
“I look forward to getting to see my friends and finishing out my senior season with them,” Gibson said.
